Here is the really good news. You can get dental implants for less in Tijuana, Mexico, than you can in San Francisco.
That’s the good news.
Unfortunately, after that, things get a lot worse.
To begin with, according to Google, Tijuana is 522.4 miles from San Francisco, which is about an eight hour drive. That might not be so bad if you only had to make the one trip, but unfortunately, for dental implants, you need to go more than once.
Dental Implants in San Francisco – Call For Initial Consultation
To start with, you need an initial consultation to see if you are a suitable

candidate for dental implants. Most people are, but you could be one of the unlucky ones. Having made an eight hour trip, you will need to stay in a hotel overnight, see the dentist the next day, and then drive back. Depending on the time of your appointment, you might need to stay a second night. Already, you can begin to see how the costs mount up. Over 1,000 miles of driving, and at least one night’s stay – possibly two.
If you are a suitable candidate, you then need to make another appointment in order to have the implants fitted. At the risk of repetition, that’s another 1,000 miles drive from San Francisco and another one or two nights. Probably two, as you won’t want to drive back straight after the surgery.
Then you will need to make a visit while the implants settle to ensure that everything is going along as it should do. You might even need to make more than one.
Of course, you need to go back again in order to have your final tooth or teeth fitted to the implants.
You may need to make another visit in order to check that everything is OK.
Dental Implants Involve Special Skills
As it happens, that may be the least of your worries. Dental implant surgery is a skill that takes several years to learn and practice, and the vast majority of dentists, whether in Tijuana or San Francisco, are not experts. It is a procedure that they perform from time to time along with all of their general dental treatments.
It is true that there may be one or two specialist dental implant surgeons in Tijuana, but all of the advertising we have seen indicates that the majority of dentists there simply list dental implants as just another one of the treatments they offer. This could mean that they only perform dental implants once or twice a month, even if that.
Furthermore, there are several different systems for dental implants and not all of them will suit all patients. In fact, some could be completely the wrong type of treatment for a given patient.
However, most general dentists will only have received training in one – or perhaps two – different systems. This could be on a few weekend courses offered by dental implant manufacturers who will (obviously) only train in their own particular system.
How can you possibly know that you will receive the correct treatment in Tijuana?

By all means, go to Tijuana if that is what you wish to do. However, bear in mind that – when all is said and done – you probably won’t save any money, and it is possible that you could end up with the wrong treatment.
